It’s a beautiful day in a well to do American neighborhood…
Dr. William Petit’s family, wife and two daughters are all asleep in their home.
At 3 a.m., two masked intruders invade the home and their first encounter is Dr. Bill who is bludgeoned brutally with a baseball bat, then tied to a pole, unconscious in the basement where he could hear and experience the next 7 horrific hours of evil perpetuated upon his beautiful wife and girls.
Jennifer, the wife and girls are tied to their beds and tortured throughout the night. At daybreak, Jennifer is released and ordered to go to the bank and bring back $15,000 which she does out of fear for her beloved family’s lives.
Meanwhile her 11 y.o. daughter McKayla was being sexually assaulted while tied to her bed next to her stuffed animals by the two intruders back at her house. When Jennifer returned with the money, she was again tied up, raped and strangled to death, later being doused with gasoline and set on fire. Dr. Bill had managed to get free of the pole but with feet still bound, he made his way out an escape door and across the yard to neighbors but it was too late… although his daughter Hailey had somehow gotten free, she died at the top of the stairs as his house and his girls were going up in flames and smoke.
Dr. Bill lost family, home, possessions… everything important in his life.
I pray this never happens to you. But the fact is, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, 1 out of every 5 homes will be the victim of a break-in or home invasion with 38% of violent assaults and 60% of rapes occuring during home invasions. According to FBI statistics, violent crime in the U.S. rose nearly 30% in 2020.
